The Wicken Bird Ringers were at the fen before dawn this morning setting up their mist nets at various locations in the vicinity of the Visitor Centre. Today's captures (so far) include a great spotted woodpecker, reed buntings, gold finches, blue tits and blackbirds.
Regular dusk sightings of hen, marsh harriers and a merlin continue over Sedge Fen. Repeated sightings of a bittern flying to the mere have been reported from both the Tower and West Mere Hide - one lucky visitor getting a splendid picture as the bird flew in front of the West Mere on Sunday.
Elsewhere flocks of stonechat have been spotted on Verall's Fen and a kingfisher seems partial to a spot of fishing on the Brick Pitts pond, which can be viewed from the Roger Clarke Hide off the main boardwalk.
